First, I'd like to take this time to again thank everyone for their help. I sincerely appreciate it and I will never forget it.
Second, pursuant to the foreshadowing in the previous project update: I've officially reached the 'desperate-starving-artist-spams-their-group-chats' stage of my new book's kickstarter-IndieGoGo-campaign.
I keep using the word "kickstarter" when describing this crowdfunding campaign since that brand has more cultural penetration and thus unconscious meaning attached to it for the jaded GenX demographic.
The actual middle-man service I'm using is "IndieGoGo" because it's more flexible with funding options, but also, a crowdfunding platform named, ‘In-Dee-Go-Go’ just sounds right for hawking a book titled, ‘Soo-Doo-Bang-Bang’. There's a hypnotic phonetic cadence to it. Just say it out loud:
Soo-Doo-Bang-Bang-In-Dee-Go-Go
Though I haven't done any scientific studies on it, I’m sure it works as subliminal advertising and increases reach to Boomers and other folks with brain damage. The color scheme and subject matter(furries, gaming, identity, etc.) of the book, should be sufficient to grab the attention of the addled younger generations.
THE ATTENTION GAME
The attention game is still new to me. Every day I'm hustlin', learning and trying new advertising techniques. I'm not sure how other people feel about ads. I know I find them annoying—especially when they're good and make me want something that I didn't even know I wanted, or worse, make me want something without me even knowing that I want it.
My biggest advertising hurdle so far seems to be a conflict between:
My conscious goal of being a crowdfunding success
My unconscious instinct to ignore all advertising
This time, I find myself on the other side of the annoyance—struggling to grab attention instead of struggling to not pay any at all. It's enough to make me go a little bit mad.
ADVERTISING
There's a line in my novel, SUDO BANG BANG, referencing a historical period of the world's backstory called, "The Draperian Jihad". It’s an allusion to both,
Donald Draper, the sociopathic Ad-Man played by Jon Hamm, on the hit show, Mad Men (2007-2015)
"The Butlerian Jihad", the label given to the war between man and machine, the backstory to Frank Herbert's Dune
Unlike Dune's "Butlerian Jihad" which involved the humans opposing A.I., the backstory of SUDO BANG BANG instead involves humans opposing Advertising.
HELP HELP ME! (帮帮我!)
Oh dear me, I'm ramblin'. What was I even talking about? Oh yeah—I HATE ADVERTISING(noun and verb) and I truly do need your HELP. (Fun Fact: 'Help' in Mandarin is "帮" which is pronounced, 'Bāng')
If you're paying attention to this, you've already helped me. But if you’d like to play a bigger part in my Bāng Bāng Gang, share my campaign with anyone who might enjoy spending their limited attention on a sci-fi novel and/or would like to give me money.
