First, THANK YOU so much for preordering SUDO BANG BANG. I've said it in person or directly to most of you, but I'm repeating it here: I am incredibly grateful for your support.
Second, my campaign isn't doing as well as I'd hoped:
Initially, I thought people might just not be interested in my book, but I reviewed the analytics on my promotion posts for the past two weeks, and the engagement is minimal. The majority of interactions with these posts have been from bots and scammers. Real people just aren't seeing the posts. I believe I know the reason why.
I noticed Facebook had become a negative force in my life and stopped using it in 2018. For the most part, I stopped using social media to, well, socialize. I only came back recently because I thought I'd need it to spread the word about this book. Since I've returned, I've noticed a couple of things:
Not as many people regularly use Facebook anymore.
The "reach" (the number of people who follow you who see the things you post) that platforms like Facebook 'allow' is very small (less than 10%).
Where is everyone? Passively doom-scrolling 'stories' or 'tiktoks' until their eyes bleed and they lose consciousness? Some are probably goners of that sort. But, I suspect, like me, most people primarily engage via direct messages to close friends and relatives, maybe participating in 2-3 Group Chats. This is essentially what SUDO BANG BANG is about: The continued co-evolution of society and the internet.
To maintain a healthy mind, we must carefully curate the things that place demands on our attention. The amount of attention we have is limited and some would say(read:me) that attention is our greatest resource. And now, the internet sorta sucks for enabling individuals to easily get other people's attention. That we are no longer within reach of the thoughts of so many others, is mostly a good thing... but it is certainly bad for my book launch.
My marketing 'plan' has been to do a post a day from my Fabrina Glitchlace accounts, 1 re-share from my Matthew MacGyver account, keep this up for a few weeks, and then become increasingly unhinged and desperate until my closest friends get concerned and start thinking of this crowdfunding campaign as an emergency GoFundMe for my mental health. And that's when I enter the prestige stage of my decade-long con struggling artist grift. I'm not yet desperate enough to directly spam my entire contact list, but I'll probably get there eventually.
tl;dr: This update isn't just boilerplate (like, share, and subscribe, click that bell, say the magic words, etc.). This is a genuine request that you PLEASE SHARE THIS CAMPAIGN.
DM anyone who knows me, your parents, or anyone else who you think might enjoy a book written by me. Share with your group chats, or other miscellaneous social media platforms, darknet messageboard forums, and bathroom stalls that you happen to frequent.
